8.04.07 - CANCUN, MEXICO

Hanging out in Cancun and surrounding cities.

We just went on the most fun family vacation to Cancun, Mexico! It was adults only so we left Lance with my parents and took the opportunity to strengthen our marriage and spend some time with John, Debbie, Jennifer, Shae, Rebecca, and Angie. It was so great!

John and Debbie found us a great resort to stay at and we stayed for about a week and it was so great! We had so much fun relaxing, reading, touring, snorkeling, playing tennis, shopping, eating authentic Mexican food, swimming in the resort pools, and playing in the ocean.

We were able to see some really cool places while there. We went and saw the ruins of Itchna Nitza, and Chitkin… and learned a lot about the culture back when these cities were built.

This is the playing field and the hoops... lucky winner...

The natives there used to have a ritual where the best, and most worthy men in the community played a game and all of the surrounding area came to watch. In this game there were two parallel stone walls with a vertical hoop on each. The point of the game was to throw a ball into the hoop. The team that got the ball into the hoop first won and their team leader was sacrificed to the Gods… interesting I know.

Before climbing to the top.

Becca, Angie and I at the summit.

We all got to climb to the top of one of the ancient pyramids and see all of the work these people put into this ancient city. There are carvings on every stone and they are all very symbolic and beautiful.

Grateful for some shade after a fun day snorkeling and playing in the ocean.
We also had a great day snorkeling at __________ and got to go on a little boat with some native guys while they drove us on a little boat around to the best areas to see the fish. That was about the extent of my snorkeling, but Michael snorkeled almost every day off the shore where our hotel was. While Michael was off adventuring I was usually either sitting on the beach tanning or reading The 5 Love Languages.

Michael looking zoned-out after playing tennis... It was so hot and humid that it fogged up the camera lens!

On one of the rooftops at our resort were 4 outdoor tennis courts. They were some sot of turf with a little bit of sand on the top. It was a lot of fun to play, and John even gave me some lessons and taught me how to serve! It was so great to get a real lesson and learn how to do it properly. It was a lot of fun to play, but REALLY hot! We were all so sweaty by the time we finished our clothes were stuck to our bodies!
